DEFENCE, AEROSPACE & GOVERNMENT

CGP-Registered, Canadian-Operated Cloud Backup for Defence, Aerospace, and Government

Backup for organizations that handle controlled technical data, classified records, or citizen information. eazyBackup is registered under the Controlled Goods Program, Canadian-owned and Ottawa-based since 2017, and all of our infrastructure runs inside Canada. Nothing sits under US jurisdiction.

The challenge

Sovereignty Requirements Rule Out Most Backup Vendors

Controlled technical data, export-controlled designs, cabinet records, and citizen information cannot sit on infrastructure operated under foreign jurisdiction. A US-headquartered backup vendor is subject to the US CLOUD Act even when your data is stored in a Canadian region. And if that vendor's support staff can access controlled data without being screened, it can become a finding in your own CGP audit. For a Tier 2 supplier, a finding like that can mean losing a place on a prime contractor's qualified vendor list. These problems rarely come up during the RFP. They come up at the next annual security review, after the contract is signed and the data is already there.

  • !US CLOUD Act exposure for any data held by a US-operated cloud provider, even when it is stored in a Canadian region.
  • !CGP audit findings when a vendor's support staff are unscreened or its physical access controls are undocumented.
  • !Removal from a prime contractor's qualified vendor list because a backup vendor cannot meet sovereignty requirements.
  • !Missed ATIP and FOI deadlines because records sit in cold-tier archives or on cross-border infrastructure.
  • !Cross-border replication, telemetry, or support routing that only comes to light during a security review, not before signing.

Why generic backup falls short

Why Hyperscaler 'Canadian Regions' Are Not Enough

A 'Canada Central' region tells you where the data is stored, not who controls it. The operator behind that region is a US-headquartered company answerable to US courts, and its support is handled by global engineering teams with logical access to your tenant, none of them screened under Canada's Controlled Goods Program. eazyBackup is a Canadian-owned operator based in Ottawa, founded in 2017, with screened Canadian personnel and no foreign parent. For procurement teams, that difference determines which vendors can be put forward at all.

  • A Canadian region is not a Canadian operator. Jurisdiction follows the parent company, not the data centre.
  • Hyperscaler support staff are global teams with logical access to your tenant, and they are not screened under Canada's Controlled Goods Program.
  • Hyperscalers cannot supply the CGP registration documentation a security review asks for.
  • Replication, telemetry, logs, and metadata routinely cross borders even when 'customer data' does not.

How eazyBackup solves it

How eazyBackup Meets Sovereignty and CGP Requirements

eazyBackup covers the core workloads in one place: Cloud Backup for endpoints, servers, and virtual machines, Microsoft 365 Backup for Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint, and e3 Object Storage as an S3-compatible target for archives, immutable copies, and third-party backup tools. All three services run on Canadian infrastructure under Canadian residency commitments, supported by screened personnel, with encryption keys that stay in your control. For procurement, that means one contract, one operator, and one set of sovereignty documentation.

Active CGP registration with screened personnel

A registration certificate and personnel-screening documentation you can hand directly to your security officer.

100% Canadian-owned, Ottawa-based operator since 2017

Not subject to the US CLOUD Act or other foreign legal process. No foreign parent company.

Infrastructure owned and operated in Canadian data centres

No hyperscaler dependency, and no cross-border replication, failover, or analytics pipeline.

AES-256 encryption with customer-controlled keys

Data is encrypted before it leaves your systems. Without your keys, our staff cannot read it, and we can document that for your review.

Object Lock on Canadian-operated e3 Object Storage

Immutable, write-once retention for evidentiary and long-term records, all of it inside Canadian jurisdiction rather than on a US-operated WORM service.

Cloud Backup, Microsoft 365 Backup, and e3 Object Storage from one operator

One vendor for endpoint, server, VM, M365, and S3-target workloads under a single procurement contract.

Documented onboarding, offboarding, and physical access controls

Access-control evidence ready when a security review asks for it, instead of answering questionnaires from scratch.

A real-world scenario

Tier 2 Aerospace Supplier Stays on a Prime's Qualified Vendor List

A 90-seat Tier 2 aerospace supplier holds CGP registration to handle controlled technical data for a prime contractor's avionics program. During the prime's annual security review, the supplier's backup vendor is flagged: it is a US-headquartered provider running a 'Canadian region', which means the operator is subject to US legal process and its support staff are unscreened. The supplier moves its CAD environment, file servers, and Microsoft 365 tenant to eazyBackup Cloud Backup and Microsoft 365 Backup, with long-retention copies of engineering records written to e3 Object Storage under configurable retention. eazyBackup provides the CGP, residency, and personnel-screening documentation in a single package for the prime's security officer.

Outcome

The supplier passes the prime's annual security review, stays on the qualified vendor list, and now has its backup and storage under one Canadian operator and a single contract.
