Sovereignty Requirements Rule Out Most Backup Vendors
Controlled technical data, export-controlled designs, cabinet records, and citizen information cannot sit on infrastructure operated under foreign jurisdiction. A US-headquartered backup vendor is subject to the US CLOUD Act even when your data is stored in a Canadian region. And if that vendor's support staff can access controlled data without being screened, it can become a finding in your own CGP audit. For a Tier 2 supplier, a finding like that can mean losing a place on a prime contractor's qualified vendor list. These problems rarely come up during the RFP. They come up at the next annual security review, after the contract is signed and the data is already there.
